GIVING & RECEIVING

‎"Giving is better than receiving." Yes it's right. But sometimes receiving reminds us to be humble. Of course we better give MORE than we receive, but it doesn't mean that we don't need to receive at all. My godmother said, "All this time, I always give and don't want to receive, and God then teaches me, that by receiving, actually I can give even MORE." And I completely agree with that :D ♥

G.K. CHESTERTON

Last night I read Agustina's facebook status and saw that it's one of the quotes from G.K. Chesterton. Then I felt familiar and tried to remember who he is. I'd just realized that I used his quote, too, in my thesis acknowledgement! That's why I felt like ever hearing that name. Then I realized that he had written many inspirational quotes! I do googling about him and what I find just now is that he reminds me of Uncle Vernon in Harry Potter series! :D (and a really classic British appearance)

I'm gonna put some great quotes from him here:
  • I would maintain that thanks are the highest form of thought; and that gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder.
  • When we were children we were grateful to those who filled our stockings at Christmas time. Why are we not grateful to God for filling our stockings with legs?
  • There is a great man who makes every man feel small. But the real great man is the man who makes every man feel great.
  • To love means loving the unlovable. To forgive means pardoning the unpardonable. Faith means believing the unbelievable. Hope means hoping when everything seems hopeless.
  • Man seems to be capable of great virtues but not of small virtues; capable of defying his torturer but not of keeping his temper.
  • An adventure is only an inconvenience rightly considered. An inconvenience is an adventure wrongly considered.
  • There is no such thing on earth as an uninteresting subject; the only thing that can exist is an uninterested person.
  • I do not believe in a fate that falls on men however they act; but I do believe in a fate that falls on man unless they act.
  • You say grace before meals. All right. But I say grace before the concert and the opera, and grace before the play and pantomime, and grace before I open a book, and grace before sketching, painting, swimming, fencing, boxing, walking, playing, dancing and grace before I dip the pen in the ink.
  • Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.
  • Literature is a luxury; fiction is a necessity.

I WANT

‎"I want to love you simply, in words not spoken: tinder to the flame which transforms it to ash. I want to love you simply, in signs not expressed: clouds to the rain which make them evanesce" -Sapardi Joko Darmono translated by John H. McGlynn

THE WORTH OF FRIENDSHIP

Only your real friends will tell you when your face is dirty. ~Sicilian Proverb

A loyal friend laughs at your jokes when they're not so good, and sympathizes with your problems when they're not so bad. ~Arnold H. Glasgow

True friendship comes when silence between two people is comfortable. ~Dave Tyson Gentry

It is the friends you can call up at 4 a.m. that matter. ~Marlene Dietrich

A true friend unbosoms freely, advises justly, assists readily, adventures boldly, takes all patiently, defends courageously, and continues a friend unchangeably. ~William Penn

If you're alone, I'll be your shadow. If you want to cry, I'll be your shoulder. If you want a hug, I'll be your pillow. If you need to be happy, I'll be your smile. But anytime you need a friend, I'll just be me. ~Author Unknown

Men kick friendship around like a football, but it doesn't seem to crack. Women treat it like glass and it goes to pieces. ~Anne Morrow Lindbergh

I don't need a friend who changes when I change and who nods when I nod; my shadow does that much better. ~Plutarch

KISS ON FOREHEAD

Find a guy who calls you beautiful instead of hot, who calls you back when you hang up on him, who will lie under the stars and listen to your heartbeat, or will stay awake just to watch you sleep. Wait for the man who kisses your forehead, who wants to show you off to the world when you are in sweats, who holds your hand in front of his friends, and who thinks you're just as pretty without makeup on. One who is constantly reminding you of how much he cares and how lucky he is to have you. The one who turns to his friends and says, "That's her."
